Cate Edwards Earns Triangle Business Journal’s 2019 Women in Business Award
Edwards Beightol is pleased to announce that Attorney Cate Edwards has been selected by Triangle Business Journal as a winner of one of its prestigious “Women in Business” Awards!
Now in its 22nd year, TBJ’s annual Women in Business Awards honor women with demonstrated dynamic leadership qualities, proven track records, and noteworthy achievements in their industries and communities. Honorees are chosen based on a multi-phase selection process consisting of:
Nominations by peers, colleagues, and clients who can attest to the leadership, results, and reputations of female business professionals in any of the 16 counties which comprise the Triangle region; from Chatham and Durham to Wake, Warren, and Wilson Counties; and
Judging criteria, including evaluations of the noteworthy successes, various leadership roles, community involvement, and future potential of nominees.
The small group of more than 200 nominees who meet TBJ’s criteria are selected as winners for one of several awards which recognize outstanding women leaders who have prevailed in their areas of business and been invaluable assets to their communities. Award categories recognize leaders in public policy, tech, entrepreneurship, the non-profit sector, and finance and STEM fields, among others.
In addition to earning a nod from TBJ and a spotlight in its featured article, Cate will also be a featured honoree at the 2019 Women in Business Awards ceremony, to be held on Thursday March 28, 2019 at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. A Career Committed to Advocacy
A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law, Cate Edwards has honed her passionate approach to advocacy through a career dedicated to representing victims of civil rights violations, corporate negligence, workplace discrimination, and injustice.
From her work as a law student with NPR’s Supreme Court correspondent Nina Totenberg to her time as a Federal Clerk, former Associate at the boutique civil rights practice of Sanford Heisler in Washington, DC, and Founding Partner of Edwards and Eubanks, Cate has been expressly committed to representing everyday Americans, the underserved, and the wronged in cases where they face off against powerful corporations and commercial entities.
Today, Cate’s practice spans a range of civil rights issues and complex civil claims, including prison litigation over the rights of injured and ill inmates, police and prosecutorial misconduct, and wrongful incarceration, protecting workers in qui tam / whistleblower lawsuits against the government, and discrimination or sexual harassment in the workplace. She also represents victims and families in toxic torts, wrongful death actions, and other negligence claims.
In addition to her work as a civil trial lawyer, Cate founded the Elizabeth Edwards program, established in 2011 to commemorate her mother and support students with limited resources, and a Member of the Board of Directors for the Wade Edwards Foundation. She has been named to the 2019 Lawyers of Distinction List, the National Trial Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40,” and in 2014 was named a D.C. Rising Star by the National Law Journal.
