Over more than a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Nicholas Hartigan (“Nick”) developed a strong reputation for handling a wide variety of complex domestic and international investigations. As a criminal prosecutor and trial lawyer, he has substantial experience in building cases from the ground up and successfully presenting that evidence at trial. He is excited to translate that experience to serving clients at Edwards Beightol.

Uniquely Experienced.

Between 2009 and 2014, Nick practiced in the Washington, DC offices of Dewey & LeBoefuf LLP and King & Spalding LLP.  While at these firms, Nick represented corporate and individual clients in complex criminal and civil government enforcement actions, internal investigations, regulatory enforcement actions, and administrative proceedings. His pro bono work fighting against foreclosure rescue scams in Prince George’s County, Maryland was recognized with Outstanding Achievement Award in Affordable Housing by the Washington Lawyers’ Committee.

Tried & Tested.

For more than a decade, Nick worked as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Northern District of Georgia and Eastern District of North Carolina. In this role, he prosecuted drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, cybercrime, and public corruption offenses in the Narcotics and Cybercrime sections.

Nick served as lead prosecutor through every stage of criminal litigation in hundreds of cases, including investigative grand juries, extensive motions practice, trials, and post-conviction matters. He tried complex cases to verdict in federal court and authored successful Fourth and Eleventh Circuit appeal responses.

Nick also served as the Digital Asset Coordinator in the Eastern District of North Carolina, responsible for spearheading the investigation and prosecution of digital asset crimes in the district.

 

Education.

Nick graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 2006, with a degree in political science and history.

In 2009, he graduated from Harvard Law School. In law school, Nick practiced for two years as a student attorney at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau on behalf of indigent clients throughout the Boston area. He co-founded “No One Leaves,” a student-run city-wide canvassing operation that partnered with local community organizers to fight post-foreclosure evictions of tenants in Boston.

Personal.

Nick was born in Virginia, where he grew up and attended public schools. He played running back at Brown University and was named an All-American three times and an Academic All-American twice. Following graduation, he was signed by the New York Jets.

Nick is married to Mary Laval DuPre Hartigan, and they have three children. Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his children in youth sports.
