Philip Brown graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1964 with an A.B. in Political History, and graduated from U.C.L.A. Law School in 1967. At U.C.L.A. Law School he founded the UCLA chapter of the Law Students Civil Rights Research Council and worked undercover for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. in Louisiana and Mississippi in the summer of 1965.

After law school he attended the "Advocacy Planning" master's degree program in Urban Planning at Hunter College in New York. He began law practice as an associate at Fadem & Kanner in 1968 and left to open his own practice in 1969. Mr. Brown is a founding member and partner in Egerman & Brown, LLP.

Mr. Brown specializes in civil litigation, both trial and appellate, where he has handled a wide range of matters from securities fraud (Zweig v. The Hearst Corp. (9th Cir. 1979) 594 F.2d 126, general contract/business tort litigation (Ales-Peratis Foods International, Inc. v. American Can Co. (1985) 164 Cal.App.3d 277), institutional lender litigation, will contests, to health insurance law matters, financial elder abuse, medical and legal malpractice, and products liability. He has been a Master in the Los Angeles chapter of the Complex Litigation Inn of Court.

Recently retired Judge Alan Haber of the Los Angeles Superior Court said this about Philip Brown: "I have had thousands and thousands of attorneys appear before me in my capacity as a Supervising Judge of the Northwest District (1991 - 1992) and in the same capacity as Supervising Judge for five years in the Court’s West District (1999 - 2003) and unquestionably, Philip Brown is at the top of the list of outstanding attorneys that have appeared before me. . . I am aware of his reputation as an outstanding attorney from discussions with my former colleagues that have experienced his talents in their courtrooms, as well as from attorneys that have tried cases against him."

Mr. Brown served for seven years as a Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Municipal Court, for eight years as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, for ten years as an arbitrator for attorney/client disputes for the Beverly Hills Bar Association, for nine years as a Probation Monitor for the State Bar Court, for five years as a Director of the Beverly Hills Education Foundation, and for ten years as president of the Beverly/Roxbury Homeowners' Association, and since 2000 he has served as a mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Brown completed the course in Advanced Mediation at the Strauss Institute at Pepperdine University. He has also served as a judge in the 1995 National Appellate Advocacy Competition of the American Bar Association and as a judge in the 2003 U.C.L.A. Moot Court Competition.
